hey guys i was wondering if those of u who use the heat radiant panels or other heat options could give some info on them and how they work and maby where u got them...im thinkin bout changing from heat bulbs to that on my one chondro cage and the new one im getting soon for my aru....i use the exo terras and cover the entire top and use the tropicaire humidifier to keep fresh humid air going into the cage...and i also use moss as a bedding so if i want to raise humidity i spray it as well as the snake and fake plants... the pic is of my baby....a hatchling aru that is now a few months old and has 2 sheds and some meals in it and is doing good...the perch is on was a temporary enclosure for it

I use radient heat panels in my burm, retic and anaconda cage. I also ordered one for either my ETB or Green Tree Python when I get that. People seem to love them because they say they do not catch on fire. Some things to look out for though are this.

2 of my 4 cages are vision cages. So you ask what does that mean. The heat panels do not sit up right against the top, so there is a little space and when they where babies well they could get up in there. Some say they could burn themselves, and there where times they loosend it up and made one side fall, and my retic actually made both sides fall, and I luckly came home from work and saw it laying on the news paper heat side down. I had to make some adjustments and actually check them everyday to make sure it is not being loosend.
In my burm cage she is in an animal plastic cage. It sits up against the celing perfect. In the winters I do not use a thermestat because they are in my basement and I use a temp gun to make sure it does not get to hot. It is actually perfect. However in the summers I do have to use it with a thermastat.
But they are I think a little pricey but they work great and after what you pay for one of these things you do not even worry about the money. Actually it may be cheaper since you would not need a huge heat panel. I think for my aboreal cage I just ordered I got a 65 watt one and that was increased from the standard because of the IL winters.

In my opinion, heat panels are the way to go. I will add the link to Pro-products below. Shoot Bob an email and describe your setup - he will let you know what size you need to use. The smallest they make are the 30 watt 12" x 8.5" and I beleive this runs about $69.95 plus shipping. They should be mounted to the ceiling of the enclosure but can in some cases can be mounted to the side. I am sure he will tell you that mounting them in an exo terra is not a good idea. Not sure how you would mount it to the ceiling since it is screen and mounting to the side places it at risk of being sprayed when misting. They can hold up to humidity but not being directly sprayed.

There are other manufacturers of heat panels but his come highly recommended.

I'm using the pro panel in my Vision cage as well. I had some problems with the viv not getting warm enough, but I solved it by putting in another perch that's a little closer to the panel and that's working pretty well. I filled in any space with some styrofoam pieces and that keeps miss busy body out of the spaces. Someone on the other forum uses the pro panel, but uses the next size up from the 40 watt as he also had problems keeping the viv warm enough.
