Pacman hasn't pooped..

elmaynardo Mar 05, 2006 02:38 AM

Hi, I bought a small pacman about five days ago, he's about an inch and a half long. This guy has a pretty good appetite, he's eaten: six 3-week old crickets and two nightcrawlers. Seems like quite a lot to stuff into his tiny body. The problem is he hasn't pooped at all yet as far as I can tell. Should I be concerned? Should I stop feeding him for a while?

I keep him in a 5 gallon aquarium that is kept at around 80F during the day and around 70F at night. He has access to a water dish. Most of his feeding has been done in a deli cup or with tongs so I don't think he's swallowed any substrate. I also tried putting him in some warm water to try to get him to defecate, but no dice.

Also: How old do you guys think he/she is based on size?

Your temperatures are fine and your water dish is good. The frog might like a little cover for security though. A fake plant in there might be nice, just for it to go under to feel safer. If you keep the temperatures warm enough and keep feeding it every day to every other day, then it should poop soon. I wouldn't stop feeding it. By the size of it, I'd say it's definately under a year old, but I'm not sure how much. After a year or two you will be able to tell if it's a boy or girl.

Try the warm water trick once in a while, everytime i put my pacman in warm water, he poops. Jsut put him in the dish with lukewarm water, and leave. It's bound to work some time, don't rush it =)

I know you said you feed him in a seperate container but you still might want to try a different substrate, gravel can easily cause impaction if he does swallow any for some reason, plus mine really seems to love burying himself in the Eco Earth I use. Two cents.
