Hi,
Just got back and read the Savu thread.
I've only had one male Savu, Aee, for ~31/2 yrs. He has always been a defensive critter in his cage. He is secretive and high strung when disturbed, say grumpy. Aee will do 2 or 3 open mouth strikes if you get inside his zone of about 2 ft and then flee. I use a gloved hand in his cage so I don't flinch. My GTP is more sedate and predictable.
This attitude has not helped with his feeding. He will hit a warmed FT Mouse or Rat fuzzy coil and then drop it and will not go back. Ive even tried a towel over the cage front. Aee is a very picky eater. He will not eat FT without a live fuzzy or small hopper as a stimulant. Both are placed in an upside down plastic bowl with a hole in it so Aee can hunt. He will eat the FT about half the time. I've even tried upping the temps to improve his eating - no avail. It took me 5 months to get him to eat this way when not in the python winter/male slowdown.
It is best to hook him to get him out. Outside he is Ok but does not like to be restrained - hand over hand - until he wraps and latches on. Then he is a strong little bugger and, believe it or not, it is nice to have someone around to help put him back in his cage.
His attitude is clear in these recent pictures.
Enjoy the Day,
George
