Welcome back from brumation, Phil! Keep up the good work and post us tons of nigras and easterns this spring. Remember I'm on your list for a pair of nigra! Where are all the sally pics from your winter outings? Post 'em up on field notes.

Hi Todd, we have been really busy with a few projects and I haven't been able to post much lately. I have checked in from time to time to catch up though. We just got in from the field and I did take some pics. I bought a new camera recently so I'm trying to get some time in with it before snaking season arrives. Todays finds were common amphibians - eastern spotted newts, Jefferson salamanders, southern two lines and wood frogs. It has been a dry winter here so it has not been as productive as usual. Things should be picking up soon. Phil

Common to you maybe, but sallies are as rare as horse feathers around here, lol! I have only found a few slimy salamanders in north central Texas, although we are supposed to have some others around 100 mile radius of me. I've never seen any others anywhere, but to tell ya' the truth, I never really looked. Now I know how important all amphibs are as they relate to reptiles, particularly the juvies. Many first meals are frogs and toads and I suspect, sallies. Post 'em up when you get time!!!

Todd, the bad news is my pic's were horrible. The good news is I am getting valuable time with my new camera and hopefully will be able to resolve issues before the snake season begins here. My bud Will managed to get some nice shots though. Here is one of those.

Jefferson's salamander

Here's a pic of us in the field our friend Clay Schmucke took. Will is on the log reaching with a dipnet. I'm in the background in the pond. Phil

That looks like fun but COOOOOLD!!!! I live in the worst part of the Nueces river system...the delta that has everybodies' backwash, etc. I've been to the head of this waterway and it is phenominal. You guys don't catch colds!

Its been dreary here lately. Low's in the 20's and highs around 45 and dry. It doesn't get no worse than that for March lol! I like to bring spare cloths with me so once I'm done I can change. After about ten pools we're done for the day! Phil
