Talk about a lucky find

RMCADguy Mar 05, 2006 12:22 PM

I was at my local reptile store a couple weeks ago picking up mealworms and one of my buds there told me that they had gotten a wierd looking gecko in with a shipment of blizzards they had just recieved. So he took me to look at it and I realized that this was a Blazing Blizzard. I asked him how much they were gonna charge, and he told me 25 bucks. I jumped on it and bought her right then and there. Since I got her home she has eaten well, gained several grams, and gotten a cleared fecal analysis from the vet. But it gets better, I had her out while cleaning her cage yesterday and I noticed that she has a snake eye! One eye is all black and you cannot see the pupil, and the other is normal.I dont think you can see it in the picture, and my camera cant get that close up, but she has one. How cool is that

Meet Eggroll.

Actually the "snake eye" is where each eye is 1/2 color & 1/2 black. Black eyes are called "eclipse".

You'll be suprised what you'll find sitting in local pet stores for the price of a normal. I found a SHTCT baldy the other day in a petco.

Yeah I know how that goes. I have found animals like that at petco before. I found out that it is because their supplier is gormet rodent. Funny huh.

how is that funny? because gourmet mass produces geckos that often get neglected by understaffed and undertrained petcos around the country?

I should show you some photos of what happens to gourmets leos at petcos, then you'll really laugh.

Oh ok gotcha. I wasnt sure about how that worked. Thanks.

A blazing blizzard used to be a blizzard with red eyes.

A blazing blizzard is a blizzard with red eyes.

RMCADguy Mar 06, 2006 08:24 PM

Thats only if its a Bell Strain Albino blizzard. The tremper albino blizzards only have dark blue black eyes.

Lucien Mar 06, 2006 11:12 PM

Uhmmmm.... No.. ALL blazing blizzards have a varying degree of redness to their eyes or they AREN'T blazing blizzards. Any albino trait will show red eyes.. if the red eyes aren't present then it isn't an albino blizzard.. its just a blizzard carrying the het.albino trait. I've seen Tremper blazing blizzards, Bell Blazing Blizzards, and RW blazing blizzards. They all have red eyes... with varying degrees of redness ranging from a lightish tan-red to that ruby color you see in the Bell's.

In the herpetoculture of leopard geckos the blazing blizzard pictured does not have pronounced red eyes. Even on the closeup they still look dark and very little red is visible. As babies, they still have dark colored eyes. You can barely see any hint of red in them until they get larger.Look at the blazings that Alex Hue Reptiles has in the classifieds, they have dark eyes. Your right that all albinos will have varrying degrees of red in the eyes, but its pronounced differently in each strain and even between individual geckos.

Mabye its just the picture, or possibly me, but those eyes look very dark and no where near red.

RMCADguy Mar 07, 2006 01:37 AM

My bad about the blue black eyes being blazing, for some reason I was thinking the normal blizzards, I got it mixed up in my mind. lol
