Heat light

DeanBright Mar 05, 2006 02:02 PM

Hi,
I was setting up a tank for my baby collards when they hatch. I put a heat light on the lid, then I decided to see what the temp would be. It got over the recomended temp, but I imagine that the thermomaer would just keep getting hotter(it is black), is this something I should fix,or is it normal? And should I keep the humidaty about the same as in my adults tank of should it be higher?

Thanks,
Morgan

Whats the wattage? I used a zoo med 75W when I had my 20gal long tank(collarded was less than 1 month old). Now I use a 150W for a 40gal wide tank. Thermostat should rise only if its hotter. Not from heat being absorb. Hope this helps.

Yep, I agree if it's way over then it's too hot. Play around with different watt bulbs.
Morgan the best thing you can do is invest in a Temp gun, they are awesome and quite accuate, point and get a reading.

* Well worth the 25.00 price tag.

I keep my baby tanks pretty much the same as the adults. Only I use paper towels for a couple months, until they are good at catching crickets.
