Just cause I know some of you like to see him every once in a while. LOL. Still the sweetest little guy you ever did see.

And a very special thanks to a fellow Angolan owner (you know who you are) for the help with the nose rubbing problem - it worked perfectly - as you can see it's pretty much all gone - who'da thunk!!

Hi Tosha,

Have you crossed him with a Ball yet? I am very curious to see what the offspring would look like if you crossed him with a female Pastel.

You had mentioned solving a nose rubbing problem. How did you get it solved? I only ask because I am having a hell of a time trying to stop my male dwarf retic from rubbing and a person doesnt get much help in the retic forum.

Thank you

LOL - I am pretty much one of those anal cleaners when it comes to my snake cages - spot clean them once or twice a day - clean and disinfect them every week, etc. etc.

When my Angolan got his nose rub I posted it up and got a bunch of answers like there was something wrong with his cage, his cage was dirty, too small, he'd gotten an infected from the rubbing, etc... Didn't seem really likely considering everything I had tried to get him to stop.

Then I got an email from another Angolan owner who told me to stop cleaning so much - I'm washing away their security. So I stopped cleaning his cage - now I spot clean as needed and clean and disinfect once a month - both my males that I was having issues with have stopped their rubbing. Go figure. Not saying that will solve all nose rubbing problems but it was a miricle cure for ours!

As for his breeding - he has no offspring as of yet - NERD did produce a Pastel Angolan Ball - it is truely an awesome looking animal!

Thanks for sharing both of these pictures. I've never heard of an Angolan except when you've mentioned him. I somehow became confused and thought he was a different kind of ball python. How different is he to keep? How big will he get?

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

toshamc Mar 05, 2006 04:51 PM

Angolans average 4-6 feet some up to 7 - females tend to be a bit bigger than males (like balls). He is pretty easy to keep needs a bigger cage obviously - but overall a very similar enviroment to a ball - I beleive they are close cousins. He does prefer to be able to perch on ledges, rocks and such more than balls do - I find him on top of his hide more often than inside of it - their natural environment is rocky cliffs as opposed to flat grasslands so that probably has something to do with it.

Overall he's got a great "puppy-dog" like temperament and is quite a bit more active than a ball. A great snake if you've got little boys that like a snake that will play with them instead of curl up into a ball.

And he's got that wicked pebbled skin that just feels great!!!

That does sound interesting. Maybe someday I'll look into one of these. I'd like something with slightly more size than a ball has. Having something that would stay visible would also be nice at times. I love my little girl ball, but those qualities sound great. I'm something of a 270 pound "little boy" myself.

Thanks,

Bill

LOL - the down side to Angolans - you can buy single males - but to buy a female - you'll have to buy a pair!

Chocolat brown. My favorite color in an animal and markings that promote the look. Congrats! and wonderful pictures! Good luck with future breedings, I'm sure I'll be drooling on my keyboard. lol.

I would love to add one of those guys to my collection... If they weren't so much money... Like you said Tosha, you can only buy them in pairs or lone males. I have a grand to spare sometime, maybe Ill pick one up..... okay, probably not, Ill probably get another ball... But I can still dream right? Get a line of credit for a snake anyone, haha.

Please Please Please Tosha do not cross that beauty with ANYTHING. I Love angolans, and am very jealous of yours. One day I will have mine lol. I hope they are not all mutts by then. I guess id better hurry. Hybrids suck.

morphed Mar 06, 2006 08:38 AM

Absolutley beautiful animal. I love them. Cant wait to get a pair, maybe this season. I want a pair to produce true angolans but i also want the male to make the hybrids. No matter what anyone says they are amazing animals as hybrids also. And since they are so closley realated its crazy to see them. i love them both. If we didnt cross breed dogs there would be 4 AKC breeds known today.. lol.. Good things can come from hybrids IMHO.

LOL - I dont think you have anything to worry about for the handful of people working with the hybrids there are thousands that are breeding pure - there will be pure Angolans to buy for a long time to come.

Hi Tosha,
That is a gorgeous Angolan and some killer pictures. I have a pair of them and hopefully they will give me clutch this year. They have locked up a few times but they did that last year and nothing so far. I guess I will just have to play the waiting game. LOL

Thanks for sharing,
Albey
