was wondering if you all have noticed if there is a big difference between the activity periods of alterna and other local nocturnal snakes. For example, do you find that on nights/times that the graybands seem to be out, is there also a lot of other snake activity evident? Conversely, do you often experience evenings where you see many subocs, lepidus, etc, but not a trace of alterna? (I also posted this query on the alterna forum)

Thanks!

Far west (River Rd., Xmas & Gap) subocs seem to be out in almost any condition. Two to five subocs a night seems about average for me. Between all those places I've found only one alterna in probably 30 - 40 nights. I would say at least in the far west subocs are no indicator of alterna. Farther east (Langtry & 277) subocs are alot less commonly found but still way more commonly found than alterna.
I have heard that if Emory's are moving alterna are moving and if Baird's are moving alterna are not. Then again another person told me if Baird's are moving alterna are moving and if Emory's are moving alterna are not.
My opinion is that if it is windy you have a decent chance regardless of humidity or temps as long as it is between 70 and 95 degrees.
