Well, in light of Lele's horrible losses, I feel like this is not important, but I'm still so sad as I discovered my three R. Brev eggs drowned today. The eggs were in with my one original female (she did not lay them though), and that enclosure was still at my father's house since that is where we originally set it up. I had been trying to move it for awhile now, but since it's large, I needed a strong person waiting on both sides of the trip to help me carry it. ANYWAY, my father had asked me a week ago if the dark that he could see down under the reptibark was water or soil...it was soil (I thought), but I couldn't tell from looking just how soaked it was. Well, today, I was checking on my eggs and I discovered them sitting in a puddle of water. Evidently, in trying to keep my girl well hydrated, we've been filling the dripper up too often. I thought it was only going for a short period per day, but I guess it didn't dry up as fast as I thought it was. Also, we had it dripping pretty slow, so I didn't think we had a problem. I was so overly concerned with crickets getting the eggs that I didn't even think of that possibility. Of course, I got her set up in a new home.
Now, I mist about 3 times per day, but for some reason I can't seem to convince myself that they are going to drink when I decide to mist. That is why I have had drippers going. So, my question is are drippers absolutely not necessary for pygmies? I was devising a way to set up a catch basin with screen or something over the top to prevent the little critters from drowning in the water that collects...then, I thought I better see if everyone else just doesn't use them.
Sorry this is so incredibly long...I'm just so sad since they only had about 2 or 3 weeks left before hatching. I feel like a dummy for assuming the water was evaporating.
