I tried my battery back up(for computers) and the power stays on but it blinks an error message and everything runs nonstop, heat & fan both.
Just looking for some suggestions.

Like the Ranco it will not run on a portable power supply. During hurricane Wilma I tried to run a Ranco on a Honda 2000 Generator and it didn't work. Then I tried my backup ZooMed 500R and it worked just fine. Pick yourself up a cheap backup just for occations like that.

I wonder if you could filter the AC generator output to make the Helix work.
Some higher end digital stuff may not accept an unclean signal.
You could look on an oscilliscope to verify a clean 120 VAC sine wave signal.
It may generate a saw-toothish pattern or just have noise on the signal.
Some things you can filter out.
