Who breeds the best splendida??

sc_shark Mar 05, 2006 04:47 PM

I am a big fan of the desert kings and I am thinking about getting a pair this year to (eventually) breed. I've seen some really nice clean ones with striking contrast between jet black and bright yellow. Does anyone know who breeds desert kings like this?

Thanks,

Andy

Andy, I'd have to say Tim Gebhard from "Vivid Reptiles" has some of the best looking black on yellow splendida I've seen. Howie Sherman of "Strikers herps" has some beauties as well. The below pic is a splendida I purchased from Howie. Pic is kind of bad, but you get the idea. Good luck.

I hope to produce them this year. I selected my babies from breeders selling babies at the Chicago (IRBA) and Daytona shows. I was specifically looking for bright yellow (not cream) and black (not dark brown). Below is a pic of my male. There is a photo of my female on my website.

One of my best friends, Don Shores, breeds some outstanding splendida. Last week I about came close to buying one while checking out some snakes at his place but it was already sold. He has a listing under the breeder's section of Kingsnake, called Shores Enuff Snakes. He also has hypo and albino ones as well.

Hope this helps!
