Post brumation question....

KenCasstevens Mar 06, 2006 03:34 AM

I have 5.5 adult Thayeri that I'm attemping to breed this year, and I just tried to give them their first meal (post brumation), and only 2 males, and 3 females wanted anything to do with food. Is this a common/uncommon thing with Thayeri? I tried rat pinks the first time, and mice the second, but they wouldn't eat. I've bred Cal kings, and corns before, and there has never been a problem with their first meal. They've always scarfed it down in no time. They all have good weight, and are healthy. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Ken,
For the most part, they are chowhounds; one of my females was slow to start this year too. I checked my temps INSIDE the cage (drawer) over the hot spot and found that the temp was only 79; I turned up the thermostat so the hot spot was between 81 and 82 and she ate. The thermostat setting had not been messed with, during the winter but the cooler ambient temps effected how hot the inside of the cage was getting. Something to try. Of course, I will have to back the temp down, as it gets hotter.

Another thing to try is a live fuzzy mouse to get her interested. Every year one of my Milks won't eat anything but a live fuzzy the first and/or second meal; then she is fine eating adult F/Z mice.
