Just use some newspapaer or paper towls much safer and easier to clean.
Is still safe. The breeder recommended using a reptile carpet after they get a little older, is there anything else?? Also what else can I put in there for them. They have a place to hide, and they hide together, but is there anything else. Can I put in a med hollow log for them to climb and hide in?? Or would they not like that..
I have never used the cage carpet but i suppose its safe. ALL sands and barks are bad for reptiles to live on. they injest the sand and it can compact them leading to DEATH. as for the bark it has small splinters and dusts that can harm the lizzards eyes and mouths. A peice of drift wood would probably be ok for them as long as it doesnt take up the whole cage. But to much stuff they may not like. rember leo's are from the desert and that is mostly flat land.
i have heard that they enhabit rocky clay crevices and semi grassy plains, in a dry land more or less. however i could be totally wrong and i would love it if someone were to correct me.
Ehh...Leos live in the desert, but isnt the desert mostly sand? Why don't they get compacted in the wild? Is it just some instinct or something that they lack in captivity? Or do they get compacted in the wild? I'm not doubting you guys, cause I know it's true, just currious...
After leos get full grown some people do keep them on fine grain sand. I don't because it adds weight and reduces the effectiveness of the bottom heat, not to mention the looming threat of impaction.
I don't like carpet, but this goes back before the new reptile carpets that are availiable. The old indoor outdoor capret used to have problems with the threads of the carpet wraping around lizard toes and causing them to fall off. I don't know if the new stuff does this or not.
Im sure leos and other reptiles do get impacted in the wild. However we dont hear about them in the wild because they arnt someones pet and they didnt cost someone anywhere from 45 to 2000 dollars.
