Heh thanks for the recognition!
I'm 20 and I have one more year of college left. I have been with the girl for almost 4 years now and after college (we both graduate in spring 07) we will get married and get jobs.
I had always wanted a pet and somehow ran across KS and started looking at all the different reptiles. Finally I got to the cham forum and read every single post. I researched for about 6 more months and finally bought my stuff and my cham arrived. He will be 1 year old in 5 days. My girlfriend got her first cham (a female) about 4 months ago.
When hers is ready, we do plan on breeding them. This of course won't be to really make a profit, but just gain experience. Plus we have many people interested in owning a chameleon.
My dream is to buy 1.1 ambilobe panthers (or nosey bes, because thats what Megan likes) when I'm out of college and have extra money (who knows when that will be). I've already thought out a cage I will be building with built in misting system, self draining, etc. I also love web design and both Megan and I are double majoring in business administration and information systems for me, and business administration and accounting for her. LOL it sounds like we're all set to own a business, eh ?
Who knows what will happen. It is just a dream now but maybe in 5 years you will see a webpage and a business sprout up selling only one type of panther chameleons and veildeds. It will never be a huge business I'm sure..because I want to be involved in the corporate world. But it would be a great hobby and business to run on the side and I would truly enjoy it so much.
If you wanna talk some more, my AIM is dcmander.
Thanks for listening and asking hehe.
Here's a picture of some D. Leucomelas poison dart frogs I had for about 6 months. I bought two of them hoping they would be 1.1 but they turned out to be 0.2. I really wanted to breed and sell them (start a mini business) and even had the whole webpage designed. However, although they interested me..dart frogs were not my true passion--mainly because the hassle of feeding them fruit flies. It is definitely not fun having those things all over...plus I'm a big beer drinker and they love to congregate in your glass of Sam Adams
and that is gross to Megan and me both. I eventually got offered an amazing deal for them and actually made money just by learning more about these crazy little guys.
If that sounds cool to you head over to the forum or do a simple search on D. Leucomelas. They have the most beautiful call and it is really cool when they mate and lay eggs...plus the whole process of tadpoles is quite amazing.
