I mean, is it a supply and demand thing? Are these hard to propigate? are they rare? I have seen them sold for 300 . just wanted to know why.
Jeff
Also, there is no import price to compete with. As far as I know, New Calendonia doesn't export reptiles at all. Josh
So these are never imported, and have to be captive breed here?
Pretty much all the cresteds you see are captive bred. You probably have to have special permits and/or permission from the New Calendonian government to collect them. Cresteds used to be 1000 dollars and up years ago. The huge amount produced in captivity every year has caused the value to go down, but only so far. Josh
OK, so on one hand its a supply/demand question. i did not know there was a relativly small supply of them. So my next question is, what makes people want them so much? I mean, they are really cool looking, but beyond that is there something i dont understand? Im not asking if they do tricks of anything like that, but are they handlable? things like that. One reason i am asking is i keep checking the classifieds here in my home state every so often someone is offering one. So i thought.... hmmmmm maybe ill jump on this wave too (get it, because waves have CRESTS hahahaha... not funny? ok)
Thanks for the help,
Jeff
ps. by the way, if this comes off as in any way insulting to those of you who do love these critters, i do appologize and understand that that is not my intention. This is an honest question, not an attack on crested geckos or their owners
