My Crested Needs Help PLEASE!!!

Aisha Jul 27, 2003 10:25 PM

My crested gecko needs help I don’t understand what is wrong. I went to check on him earlier today and he acted like he had nerve damage. His front legs weren’t moving like they were paralyzed and his back legs were twitching around I picked him up and a few minutes later he was acting like nothing happened. I check on him a few minutes ago and he did the same thing and started action normal in a few minutes after handling him. If he was human I would almost think he was faking. He appeared to be asleep both times when I checked on him is it possible his legs were asleep?? It the only explanation I can think of.. Any opinions or suggestions would help the vets around here don’t work with lizards much. Thanks

What do you feed him and what supplements? Does you calcium supplement contain d3? Did he suffer any falls lately? What you are describing sounds similar to a problem someone had on here a while back, but I just want to rule out other possible causes.

It shouldn't be calcium or vitamin deficiency because I dust with Miner-All every second feeding. He hasn't had any fall I'm aware of. I checked on him today and he is acting normal, no twitching at all. I'm really confused?

Aisha,
Miner-all is a great product, but you also need a multivitamin supplement such as Herptivite or Sticky Tongue Farms new Vit-all to go with it. Use the multivitamin about twice a week in addition to Miner-all every other day. The any number of vitamins that your gecko is lacking is mostly likely the reason for its state of health. Hopefully after you start use the symptoms will clear up, otherwise a vet visit is in order for blood work to determine exactly what the problem is and the route to correct it. Best of Luck and keep us up to date.

The Vit-all is actually a gutload formula that is served up as a paste.

Yes I am aware of that. Instead of dusting with a powdered supplement you are packaging it up inside your feeder insects. It should be a more efficient way of administering vitamins because they won’t get rubbed off before the prey is eaten. Gutloading should be a common practice regardless, but this stuff is supposed to be more complete. Given Sticky Tongue’s track record it should be a great product, so I am looking forward to trying it.
