MATT15 Jul 27, 2003 10:36 PM

BUT HE WILL EAT ANYTHING ELSE I PUT IN HIS REPTARIUM. SO IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CCAN USE OTHER THAN CRIX AS A STAPLE DIET.

Hi!
I agree, silkworms are probably the best! But I'm not so sure that's your problem. 10 crickets every day....your cham is probably full! Try skipping a couple of days! Also, veilds are known to eat vegitation- stick a pothos plant in his cage! This will ensure that he's got something to eat.

...it should help answer many of your questions. As for your pollen question - no. You can buy bee pollen very inexpensively from a natural food store or one that sell herbs, foods, etc. in bulk. Taking them from flowers is more difficult than you think in order to get the right amount, large quantities, etc.. As I think I mentioned, as did that article I linked you to the other day, pollen is optional.

hope this helps

Matt,

You can try giving him mealworms. I have one cham that seems to not be too interested in crickets, like yours. But she can finish eating 20 mealworms in less than 5 minutes. Mealworms have about the same nuttritional content( minus the guttload) as crickets. so you can try that. And oh..silkworms are good too.

there is a number of people who use mealworms as a staple. Although some people would disagree that it should be used as a staple. As usual, there are so many conflicting ideas on chameleon care, i guess it is mainly up to the care givers best judgement and experience that leads to their decisions. i use melaworms as a staple along with crickets for quite a while now, and everything seems to be fine. For me mealworms have been great. So its your call.
