A "What do you get" question

Nisa Mar 07, 2006 12:04 PM

I get simple recesives easily, but multiply recessives is just beyond my grasp, so what do you get with a snow(f) and a amel het blizzard(m)?

I was trying to make a kind of picture flowchart to explain it. I just don't know all the morphs totally yet, I've only been at this a couple of weeks.

It appears to me since blizzard is (amelanistic charcoal)
and since charcoal is Anery B. Your Blizzard will add some het genotypes for Anery B.

or

female
SNOW (amelanistic anerythristic)

male
Amelanistic (amelanistic) het for Charcoal
Charcoal being anery B

Both snakes are double recessive for the Amel

But but only one double recessive for Anery A 50$ babyes het for Anery A

And one is HET for the Anery B 25 % het

And 25% of babies will be het for but A and B

Some please correct me if I'm wrong.

I hope I did not screw this up, it would just make it tougher for you.

I tried to post as a pic so I could pull it, it was not readable.
My apolagizes in advance if I got this wrong. But if wrong it will surely get people to respond too lol

What on earth was I saying. This was an old man babbling about something unrelated to the topic that is for sure.

If you scrolled this far, OK, you can read my worthless post.

I'm probably wrong, but how did you get 50%
het. Charcoalwith 1 snake that is recessive?

I do like the format

I think I got more caught up in why.

Good question. The answer as I just figured out is because the genetics calculator won't let something be amel and het amel at the same time. So when you hit amel het blizzard it comes up amel het charcoal. So that is why.

Old school is out. Put that papor and pencil in the trash and use a computer. Then you have more time to brows for your next snake purchase LOL

I live on the PC can you tell? lol Some things are just easier on paper. Unless they finally get a light pen to work on a LCD screen. That would be cool, a wireless hand held screen, and a pen to draw or write anything you want or work programs like PSP or PS with a pen.

What we really need is a kingsnake.com forum format that lets us show the work. At on time we could do it with the HTML preformat tag, but that doesn't seem to work since the last format change.

For what it's worth, I get the following results for the snow x amel het blizzard cross:
1/2 amelanistic, heterozygous anerythristic
1/2 amelanistic, heterozygous anerythristic, heterozygous charcoal

Greater than one-locus Punnett squares are for masochists! Anybody want to learn the branching system?

Nisa Mar 08, 2006 02:04 PM

Okay, Let's see if I get it right. All of the look like the daddy, right? Half of them if breed to the mom might make snows? The other half breed to the dad might make blizzards? or would they all sitll look like the dad?

I made a A in Bio 101 & 102, so why am I having such problems? I think I'm missing something or making it too hard.

>Okay, Let's see if I get it right. All of the look like the daddy, right?

Right. All the babies are amelanistics.

>Half of them if breed to the mom might make snows?

Right, if the half are all males.

All the babies are at least homozygous amelanistic and heterozygous anerythristic. Mom is homozygous amelanistic and homozygous anerythristic. Lets do the cross one mutant at a time:
1. amelanistic x amelanistic -->
all babies amelanistic

2. anerythristic x heterozygous anerythristic -->
1/2 anerythristic
1/2 heterozygous anerythristic

So all the babies from a snow x amelanistic, heterozygous anerythristic are amelanistic, and half are anerythristic in addition to being amelanistic (AKA snows).

>The other half breed to the dad might make blizzards? or would they all sitll look like the dad?

Any of the amelanistic female babies bred back to amelanistic dad would produce amelanistic babies. In fact, all the babies from such a mating would be amelanistics. The question is, could any of their babies be both amelanistic and charcoal (AKA blizzards). The answer is yes, if you pick a female that is heterozygous charcoal besides being amelanistic. Because 1/4 of the babies from a heterozygous charcoal x heterozygous charcoal are expected to be charcoal. Unfortunately, you can't tell an amelanistic heterozygous charcoal from an amelanistic. So save several females to get better odds of having at least one that is heterozygous charcoal.

Good luck.
