Hey there, Allot of the plants on this site I will and have used.

Grass wise, I love bermuda.

Goodluck, growing your own plants are great. You not only know where the vegetation is coming from but it is also fun imo.

that is a good link i was also told to go to turtlecafe.com neat stuff there too, i think bermuda would be my best bet, i already have the flowers picked out that i am going to grow for our leopard and the red foot, i will be planting snap dragons marigolds and nastriums, i picked those just because they sell them at super markets here as edible flowers so i figuered that they would be good choices, so far the red foot likes them all and i have only tried the snap dragons in small quantities with the leopard and he seems to like them as a treat.

Very cool, The mix sounds good.

I do not yet have torts in my personal collection. But the ones I care for at the shop really enjoy bermuda.

Good luck.

adam:

hi.

are you sure about the snap dragons? I'm pretty sure all parts of the plant, including the flowers, are toxic.

best,
scott

As far as i know they are safe i read them on a list i had a year ago as a safe plant, along with marigold and nastrium, also at the the super markets here they sell them with a mixed variety of edible wild flowers, and i have seen them been feed to red foots leopards sulcatas and beareded dragons and even feeder crickets with no harm done, oh and my girlfreind gives them to the breeder rats, if you have any information other wise i would definatly like to check it out and it would be much appreciated.

thanks

I remember getting about 100 plants for about $15 before one winter, hoping they were edible, and after mixed research, deciding against it. I can't recall the sources, but a quick search yielded this: http://www.iguanas.cl/htm/toxic.htm

It may not kill an animal that eats it, but I'd worry about long-term organ damage (liver, esp) if it's a continuous food, IF it is toxic (it may not be, but unless I'm sure, I stay on the safe side).

EJ has sent me some helpful links today and so far i havent found anything that specifies that they are toxic, if anything culinarycafe.com says they are edible and i went to a cornell univ. website and it said it was neither toxic or safe so.... i am not sure, i will check out that website that you said

I did not say anything about the snaps as it seemed alright to me, heard people use them before but, never researched them or used them myself.

The quick comment is, Generally If I have any doubts whatsoever on someone I won't feed it, even if others do. If someone has a comment like ScottE about possibly seeing they are toxic....well this very well could be. Maybe he is mistaken or maybe where he saw this someone had bad results with it. The info is out there. Anyway, I would look into this much more before offering this as any bit of doubt can be the line between a healthy individual and a sick animal.

Did I say this was a Quick comment? lol

I know you guys are mostly in the USA, and I'm in the UK, but here there are two plants that are called 'marigold': one is the Calendula or pot marigold (usually big with orange or yellow flowers), and they are safe for torts; but the other one, which is often called African Marigold, is shorter with orange, yellow, and rust colored flowers, is Tagetes, and that is toxic. The two plants have totally different leaves. If you google calendula and tagetes you can see good pictures of them to identify which to buy/grow.
