Shy Frog (still)

tadpole4 Mar 07, 2006 02:04 PM

I called Patrick at saurian and asked what he thought of my shy frog problem. He recommended I remove the female (immediately) for about a week. He said that her bold personality may be overwhelming him and he is hiding from her. this way I can get a better idea if it is her or the tank (new environment) or new humans causing his behavior but he did seem pretty concerned that the male was behaving this way.
So I took her and the log out of the tank and moved the tank upstairs to my room where there is MUCH less commotion. I am really upset that my new frog is so unhappy here. I feel like I'm failing miserably at caring for him and I just don't know what to do to fix it. Any other ideas?

BTW thank you guys so much for being patient with my endless questions about this same subject, I know I am sort of obsessing about this. Chalk it up to inexperience. I have other frogs ( two fire bellies and 4 dwarf aquatic) just no Darts and I didn't think this would be so much different.

Thanks again
Jean

Look at my post below. We are always obsessed and anxious about our first darts, but later on, when the newness has worn off and our addiction has caused us to acquire many darts, we just sort of leave them to their own devices, and more often than not, they do just fine eventually.

Ditto to Patty.

I wouldn't keep them seperated for longer than a week. Is the frog looking skinny? I would advise getting a fecal done (with all new frogs, but even more so with a frog that seems sick).

I'm sure he will be ok in a bit.

I,m just letting him get himself settled and established in this viv before reintroducing the female back into the viv.
I am beginning to think he will be ok, just a little bit on the odd side. He comes out in the evenings rather than during the day. here it is 8:00 pm and he just came out and is hopping around and climbing the walls. So I guess he is eating, I just don't see him at all during the day.
