Breeding Northern Mexican Pines

nodaksnakelover Mar 07, 2006 04:17 PM

Hello,
this past year I attempted to hibernate my jani, and from what I'm seeing. The male has NO interest in the female. He's also smaller, having not been a big eater last year. I'm assuming now that there temps really were just too high. Thus the finicky attitude of the male. So they are in new racks, with a very small strip of heat tape in the back. So this way they can warm up some if they want to. Otherwise pretty much at room temp. Any tips for me trying to get these guys to breed would be greatly appreciated! I'm pretty sure this year that it's not going to happen.

russell, since no one else is taking this one, i'll give it a go. i no longer keep jani's but i remember that they had little [as in none] tolerance for heat. the cooler, the better so i always kept them down near the floor & they flourished there. hope this helps. btw, your baby northerns are starting to really put on some size now. thanks!

*nods* Our jani are kept in the snake room without heat and are thriving. I'd say it's about 78-82 during the day and around 76 at night (around shoulder height). They are close the floor so are probably a bit cooler than that.
