Crickets and chams and good lele advic

nymph Mar 07, 2006 06:32 PM

ok I took lele's advice and I am just enjoying. It's going great!! It is so cute when nigel puffs his little dewlap(I hope that is right for a cham) when I mist his enclosure. I'm so glad I got him he is great. I was wondering if anyone orders crickets online and from who. About how much does it cost. Thank you.

THANKS LELE

I am so glad all is going so well!

I orderexclusively online. Have tried several, some better than others. I currently use - and HIGHLY recommend - premiumcrickets.com. Deanna, who I am getting my little nosy be from, recommended him last summer. Great prices, excellent customer service and what is REALLY nice is that if you have small demands he offers "contract crickets." you order a given amount at set frequencies for 6 deliveries. A tad more expensive this way? yes, but if you are only feeding a few animals it is a lot better than ordering 500 and having half die! It was great when I had only Darwin (in semi-brumation), the tarantulas and my frog. Not a lot of demand there! :-O

I also used reptilefood.com in the past and they were great then I had a bad experience, but I know many folks still use them with no problem.

I will say that if you are on the east coast it might be better if you can find someone on this side (premium is in GA) and vice versa if you are west.

Regardless, you will save a TON of $$ ordering online. Give Mike a try. He also sells other feeders and you can add on small amounts of waxworms and others to your order. I will be expecting an order form him tomorrow all set for my newbie!

Tell him lele sent you! lol!

I'm glad to hear that you guys have success with premiumcrickets.com. They screw up EVERY order I place. I'm getting ready to contact them right now since I have a weekly contract and have not received crickets in 10 days.

I am shocked! I did two stints of contract with him last summer and fall inot winter and they came without fail. I ordered waxworms to come with each shipment and one time the ww container had opened. I called Mike he shipped out a new batch of ww the next day.

He does discuss the temperature issue on his site and will hold shipping - could that be it? I hope you get it all worked out b/c I think he is good. Also, his crickets are clean and never die
Well, until they are eaten...

lele, I called and you were right-he's a really nice guy. He was out running errands, but called me at work an hour later. Somehow, the order in the computer had no ship dates listed-past or future. He is going to resume the shipments on Friday. I can get some crix at the local store to tide me over. I have 500 medium and 500 1/8" but I need some in between for Valentino. Thanks for suggesting I call. Diane

Not sure how your order got messed up, but I knew he would take care of you! What more can you ask for than a supplier answering the phone on a Sunday or calling you back after errands.

I think you will be pleased with the quanity of the feeders, too!

from Premium or Reptilefood? I have heard from others that reptilefood.com did go thru some sort of operational change (no idea what) and there were a few problems but all has been resolved and they are good again. I got hooked on premium in the meantime.

Being in PR it was probably difficult for you to get feeders sent there?

premiumcrickets

Like lele said, start with one near where you're located. Much of their prices are similar, but shipping rates will vary. I've used Grooms and Ghanns, and both were excellent, but shipping was expensive. Being on the west coast, I use American Cricket Ranch. They're consistent, priced well, and actually answer the phone when you call, which turns out to be quite a blessing after trying some of these other companies. Also, if you're going to buy in bulk, buy 1000 at a time, not 500, as it's usually $1 or $2 difference, and you might as well double your count for the extra buck or two.

That's what I like about Premium. The first time I tried to order I had trouble with the shipping amount (kept coming up at like $22!). It was a Sunday but I called with the intent of leaving a message - Mike answered the phone! He was most gracious and helpful. Makes a huge difference regardless if you are a big breeder or just one of us herp lovers who only have a few

The other advantage of finding one closer to home is the winter months. For those of us in the northeast, having them come across the country from CA or somewhere. it's good to know there are some good suppliers on each coast (and of course in between
