accidental cricket breeding

thebig_j Mar 07, 2006 06:52 PM

I have a Timor monitor and tonight while misting his cage I noticed a bunch of small crickets crawling all over the cage. He must have let a couple of crickets I put in there for him to eat get away. They must have bread and now there are alot of crickets. So should I change out all the dirt and clear out all the crickets or do yout think he will just eat them with no problem. I was wondering if you think the crickets would bite and harm my Timor.

Thanks
Joel Harrison

I actually learned to breed crickets that way. Now I produce almost all my crickets using old monitor cages.

If you do not feed the crickets, they will dwindle quickly. Very few will make it past pinheads, those that do will be free food.

And no, normally they do not bother the monitor, that is, if the monitor has burrows and hollows(timor) to hide in. Cheers

Happened to my BT too, but by then he would just squish them (accidentally???)and look at me as if he was saying "You lil rat! gimme some locusts and forget about feeding me crics!". Anyways, i just changed the dirt when it was needed (not because of the crics), and took the lil crics to the garbage with it. :P
