Planting Question for Sulcata owners.

sd2fast4u Mar 07, 2006 07:47 PM

I have this huge wonderful new pen for my Torts and live here in Charleston SC, Does anyone have any suggestions as far as what I should plant inside and around the pen for my Sulcatas to eat? I do not have a green thumb so I need some help on this one. I'm guessing that since its near spring, now is the time to plant. Can anyone help me out with some plants or grasses that are healthy for my Sulcatas? Thanks!

Bermuda grass is fabulous, I honestly don't know a lot about what will & won't grow in your region. I would think hibiscus would do well in your area, that'd be great. Hollyhocks, petunias & marigolds are good. Spineless cactus, buffalo grass are good for them if those will grow there.
I've found through reading that most shrubs are poisonous and so are most flowers that grow from bulbs rather than seed. This URL:

has been very helpful for me here in the southwest.
Also the feeding guide from The Tortoise Trust has been helpful in deciding what to plant. Good luck finding good stuff.
