The first year you can expect 2 to 3 inches per month if your gator is very well fed (daily) and kept in a very warm environment (90ish). You can also get occasional months of 4, 5 and even 6 inches of growth, but these are usually the first 2 or 3 months. Anything after that is usually under 4. Once over 4 feet you can't expect more than maybe an inch a month if the gator is still young. Females over 5 feet, half an inch a month, over 6 feet a few inches a year, mostly in summer and early fall. Males continue to grow a little more than females do after 5 or 6 feet up until about 7 or 8 feet and then they too slow down to a very moderate rate.
These are all "optimal rates". And as with everything there are many exceptions to every rule and there will be individuals that grow much less and individuals that grow much more. But this is the norm.
>>I was wondering if gators or crocs had growth spurts or a period of time when they would naturally grow the most. Some snakes grow more in the first couple years of their lives than they ever will. Are gators or crocs the same way?
