Finally got some eggs!!!

bthacker Mar 07, 2006 08:35 PM

Looks like a have a bunch of fertile eggs after 18 days post shed from my Black Tail!! Now the waiting for the hatch. I will post pics with a final count later.

She was very restless almost looking like she wanted out of her cage yesterday and she finally laid. Unfortunately she didn't take advantage of her lay box but this is her first time.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help in the earlier threads. I really appreciate you guys sharing your knowledge.

Thanks-

Brett

Well the final count is 15 and they all appear to be healthy and fertile.

How old is the male and female (when were they born?)?

bthacker Mar 07, 2006 11:51 PM

Not sure. I believe they are 01' or 02' animals. The history on them isn't totally known. I traded a group of Thayeri for them last September. I am pretty fortunate to have them breed a few months later and get a good clutch.

Congratulations! That is wonderful, and I hope you are basking in the wonderful glow of a job well done by that vibrant female, she looks radiant despite post ovoposition status. Let us know about the hatch. Vic

Thanks fellas! She laid her eggs on the opposite side of her cage and not in her nest box. She started laying sometime around 4PM yesterday, I got home and there were already four eggs out and she continued to lay until 9PM. Hopefully her temperment will be better and she can relax now, she has been a bit edgy lately. I am not looking forward to my own wife's pregnancy!!!!

By the way Vic that was a photo of her back in October. She is a bit thin right now but she appears to be in good shape. I am going to offer her a small meal tonight. Hope all is well with you.

Thanks-

Brett

I transfer all of my gravid snakes into a rubbermade rack and fill the rubbermaid with nesting material. They have no choice but to lay their eggs in the nest box. It works very well for me. I transfer then about a week after their pre lay shed.

I think I will try that next time. She seemed pretty stressed out the last week or two and this may help next time.
