albino trans-pecos rat snakes

UAWPrez Mar 07, 2006 11:06 PM

I just noticed some albino trans-pecos rat snakes in the classifieds. I wasn't aware there were albinos. Can anyone give me some background info on them. How long have they been around, were they crossed with something else to develop or was someone lucky enough to find a wild caught one, or did it just pop up in a captive clutch somewhere. Also I saw mentioned silver subocs too, what are silver ones?
Thanks,
Kirk

There are three seperate occurances. One was caught wild on hwy 277. One was hatched from normal looking parents in Germany and there was another animal found albino in the wild I am not sure of locality on the third one. They have been around for at least 8 years maby more.

There have been four albinos found on the River Road. Only one has been proven at Tracy Barker's.
Here are some of my albinos anmd silvers, both normally patterned silvers (very rare) and blonde patterned.

and the other two... the albino is the Hwy. 277 line that the Barker's (and Soderberg) first bred.
The silver is a rarer normal H-patterned '05 female. Silvers popped up serendipitously at Mark Bell's around 10 years ago.
Later on!

4 albino subocs off River Rd.? Dave Long caught a baby in 1997 and Don Long(no relation) caught a subadult in or around 2003. Do you know when and who caught the other 2?

dustyrhoads Mar 09, 2006 12:14 PM

Yeah...I have it written down for suboc.com. "suboc captive history" page
Eagan and one other person...I'll e-mail it to you later when I get home...I've got the names and mileages etc.

Duh how could I forget Tim Egan's, I saw that one in person too. Funny story about that one too. The night Tim caught it Dave Long was the first person he showed it to. Tim did not know what it was and he asked Dave if it was one of those blonde subocs. Dave said ya it's a blonde and it's worth about fifty bucks, wanna sell it. Tim said ok. Then because he is a nice guy and Tim's friend Dave told him what he really had and said it's worth about $3,000. Tim sold the snake to Troy Hibbits for $2,000 a few days later.

That's a funny story. Gray-band people can be so fixated and closed-minded...nearly obsessive compulsive, that they overlook everything else. : )
(...And I'm one to talk, right?)
And then we know the sad ending to that story...poor Troy had it die on him. Ouch!
