Pueblan help

TheGrinch Mar 08, 2006 07:12 AM

Hello everyone.
Im new to breeding Pueblan milks, i have brumated my 1.2 group from 1st nov 05 - 10th feb 06 at a temp of 55 nice and cool, my female's have now had there 1st shed after many good feeds, the male has been feeding fine too, should i introduce them now or wait a bit longer .

How long should i keep the introductions going.

and what would be the time factor from the hookup's to the droping of eggs.

I keep many other kings and milks, but what should i expect from the pueblans.

Sorry for sounding a bit dumb but as i have said im New to the breeding of Pueblans.

I hope everyone has a great season with your breeding projects, and thankyou for any advice you can give.

Introduce them now. Pueblans are ready to breed after their first post-hibernation shed. In most cases you will see the male actively pursuing the female. I have 1.2 Pueblans. I introduce each female to the male 3 to 5 times following the post-hibernation shed. Eggs are laid about 6 weeks following breeding. The female will have a pre-egg laying shed around 10 days before egg deposition.

Tim
Have you any advice on double clutching.

tspuckler Mar 08, 2006 09:50 AM

Pueblans routinely double clutch. I feed my females twice a week when they begin breeding. Once they become gravid, they'll take smaller meals. This insures that they will have enough weight for a second clutch. I don't know if it's really necessary to re-introduce females to the male for a second clutch, but it's not a bad idea.

Tim's advice was very good. In my experience, they will breed pretty quickly after the introduction if you have a good, agressive breeder male.

I usually leave them together overnight and then separate in the morning, give them a night off and then reintroduce for a night. I usually do this 3 to 5 times after the female sheds. This technique has worked for me.

good luck.
