Copulation Question...

SnakeSmith Mar 08, 2006 06:45 PM

I have seen countless photos of balls copulating, but does anyone how many confirm an actual copulation. I mean actually see the hemipenes. The reason I ask is that I have witnessed many times my snakes are in this position with tails wrapped perfectly, but upon close inspection there is no real connection.
Thanks,
Glenn

You can also check their vents. When they have had a sucessful copulation the anal plate will be turned inside of the vent. You can do this when they are done. I will try to get a picture of this later. I think that checking for hemipenes would disturb them too much.

That't very intrusive and hard to see. However, I posted a picture a few months back showing the hemipenes and an actual "connection". I was told I had too much time on my hands LOL. As long as they look like they are trying, I'm happy.
