Yesterdays newspapers read that the U.S. embassador in Iraq said the war on Iraq has been a mistake.

Do you guys still think it was a good idea?

As long as it was the embassador and not the ambassador we're fine.
The ambassador speaks for the coutry but I don't think the embassador's opinions matter very much. : )
(As a life long bad speller, I can't resist an opportunity to revel in someone else's bad spelling. No offense intended).

I think you meant country, not coutry. But anyway, I never thought it was a good idea in the first place.

I have absolutely no reason to doubt you (and I believe you), so don't be offended. But aren't you amazed how many people remember being against this from the beginning? When we were being sold on the WMD theory the message we were getting in the media was that this was a very popular move that no legislator dare question. This country was backing the President maybe 99%. Were the popularity reports a sham or have we collectively altered our memories?
I recall driving down I-95 back before the actual invasion. A women in front of me had her car plastered with homemade antiwar placards. I sped up, pulled beside her, honked my horn, and gave her the big "thumbs up". The look are her face indicated that she was used to seeing a different finger all day and she flashed the peace sign and proceeded away down the next exit.
Well, now youve got me thinking. I was at a bar when bush came on tv and said we had started bombing Iraq. The whole bar errupted in cheers. I just remember thinking about the UN inspectors findings, or lack there of, and them requesting more time. I know people say Iraq had long enough to cooperate, but it seemed like they were actually making progress. Saddam had no viable way to pose any threat to us himself. His military was pretty much null. I suppose in all honesty, while I wasnt for the war (and this isnt a john kerry deal here) I didnt see the (big picture) problem right from the get go in that I was thinking that Saddam was a bad guy, they'll be better off without him, and it will only take 2 weeks tops to finish the job. Woops. Upon further review of the play..... I am definitely a person who thinks we should avoid international conflict as much as possible, but I do understand that sometimes, you have no choice. Unfortunately, I see the war on terror being a lot like the war on drugs. Lots of money and effort and manpower, few results. I know, I know, we havent been attacked again, yay bush.

Well, as unpopular as war is, it is a much needed tool in this world where killers become dictators who try to wipe people of their choice off the earth. WMD were moved, as shown by satellite pictures. Saddam Hussein had the money and power to either attack us on his own, or to financially support other terror groups. Remember he offered to pay the family of suicide bombers. It was just assumed he ment in Israel, but he never specified it to bombers in any one country. America has become a place where our freedoms are taken for granted. Many, including myself, have joined the military to defend a country, that was born from a war against a tyrant. Have we all forgotten this? Did you not learn that we were helped by foreign fighters? The people of Iraq were being killed in mass by a crazed man, Hussein. They needed our help and they are getting it. DO NOT GET WRAPPED UP IN THE ANTI-BUSH MEDIA, WHICH JUMPS ALL OVER ANYTHING THEY CAN TO DISCREDIT A STRONG AND CARING PRESIDENT. WHEN YOU WANT TRUTHS, TALK TO A SOLDIER WHO HAS RETURNED FROM THE WAR. ASK HIM TO TELL YOU THE TRUE EVENTS, AND HOW THE IRAQUI PEOPLE ARE GLAD WE ARE THERE. We live in the most dangerous times the earth has ever witnessed. Our strong offense is our only defense.
This war is not about helping Iraqis. No doubt that Hussein is a bad guy and hopefully this will all turn out for the best. This war is to "fight them there so we dont have to here." As far as I understand, Hussein didnt actually have the means to harm us. Just look at the fight they put up when we attacked. They didnt last but a few days. Sure he may have wanted to. This is not anything personal towards you or any of our troops and I know that some progress is being made over there, but it just seems like a dance. One step forward, 2 steps back, 3 steps forward, 2 steps back........I have no problem with taking on the bad guy and defending our country, but to do this without a plan was a big mistake. Whats it been, 2 1/2 years since "mission accomplished"?
I have to disagree with you about bush. I dont think he is strong and caring. I think he doesnt know when to admit hes messed up. Just yesterday I watched him give a speech. Honestly, there is hardly any difference in his speeches now compared to 3 years ago. I get tired of hearing the same thing over and over. I dont know if you have served in Iraq but if so, please email me and let me know some of the good.
I understand war is, unfortunately, a necessity in the world from time to time. This is not one of those times.

"We live in the most dangerous times the earth has ever witnessed. Our strong offense is our only defense."
right, because living in the middle east during the Christian crusades wasnt dangerous. or living during the french revolution. or living as a Jew in Nazi Germany. or living in the Rome under the Emperors. or even during the height of the cold war. its easy to say that our times are the most dangerous, but when you havent experienced any other "times" in the entire history of human civilization, you cant really say how bad your "time" is.
and BTW, Al Queda DID approach Saddam Husein about an alliance, but Saddam turned them down.
i think if we leave now, it will kind of be a waste of life and money, but i certainly dont think we should have gone in the first place.
