Waxworms as a staple??

funnyman527 Mar 09, 2006 01:19 AM

What do you guys think abotu feedign cresties 1 or 2 waxworms every 2nd or 3rd day. I know that in other reptiles that there is some inherent risk of fatty liver disease from thier high fat content, but i liek the idea that since it's a soft bodied grub, that there's virtually no risk of impaction. Just so no one thinks this is all im feedign my crestie, i also feed mine t-rex's CGD on alternating days with the waxworms.

thanks,

~Eric~

I'm not sure about cresteds, but I would assume that a high-fat diet is bad for anyone. If you want soft-bodied, try silk worms. My cham & my leo used to LOVE them. I havn't tried it with my cresteds b/c I don't really see the point (CGD is pretty much a balanced diet. I supplement with crix every once in a while for the fun of the hunt, and as a treat they may get some baby food, but that is rare). Silkies also have a naturally high(er) calcium content.
