Buying a pastel fem. below 200grams.

zefdin Mar 09, 2006 12:16 PM

If you are looking to buy a pastel female is it really worth paying $900 to $1800 (depending on quality and seller) for one that is small - lets say below 300 grams?

I mean what are you buying for your money?

You can buy 1, 2 or even 3 nice males for that price and potentially have several females within 6 to 12 months?

How much time do you really gain by spending lets say $1100.00 dollars today for a 175 grammer?

Maybe I am missing something?

Maybe not.

Depends. You may find she grows just fine and you are 2 years maybe three until breeding her. If you buy a similarly aged male, you are two out at least until bredding, and then you have to wait for females to grow up, so another 2-3 3 so it's more a 5 to 6 year plan to get to a female that way. All depends on what you want to do.

Do you want Supers?
Depends on what you hope to "create", and how patient you are.

If you already have a female. Then you will be that much closer to making supers or crosses.

Whereas,if you hatch your own female pastels, then you have add the year it takes to raise your male, breed him and hatch eggs(really 1.5 years)and the two or three they will need to grow up to produce for you.(This is all under the assumtion that your not unlucky, and you do actually hatch some females.)

Which is also the reason why prven breeder males are higher than hatchling males.
