Possible RI...Please Help

Hello. I have a 2 year old corn who has been extremely healthy since i bought her (2 years ago). Recently I've noticed that she is making a "sneezing" and "clicking" sound which at times is fairly loud. Absolutely nothing in her enviroment has changed except for her food size (large mice). She has no problem getting these down. She tounge flicks, cruises her cage, is very social and doesn't appear to be sick. I'm wondering if these symptoms are the beginning stages of a respitory infection. Any ideas? Need help and assistance so any follow up posts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

T

Do you use reptibark? That caused my bp to wheeze from the dust.

Is there any thing blocking the nostrils? Sometimes shedding can cause their nostrils to be blocked.
Are you seeing any open mouth breathing or any fluid from the nostrils?

no bark and dont see anything blocking her nostrils. it's really weird. she's never had any problems. i've left her alone as not to stress her out. i haven't heard her making the noise lately. im also wondering if she possibly swallowed a piece of aspen bedding when she ate. that could account her her sneezing/coughing. any ideas?

Thanks

Not to sure about the aspen bedding but you should always feed you snakes in something like a cardboard box IMO this way you don’t have to worry about things such as the snake swallowing anything from the enclosure as well as you wont get the problem of the snake associating the enclosure opening with feeding time. I found this out first had via 2 attacks from a Burmese Python I use to keep. Since then all my snakes do not ever eat in there enclosure and so far no other problems. If you click on the link below it will take you to a page with common snake health problems. If your snake dose in fact have a RI then it will tell you what steps to take. Good luck and keep us up to date.

it is best for the snake to feed outside of the enclosure if you have aspen or anything else that could be swallowed with the food. When I switched from reptile carpet, feeding outside of the cages added around an hour or so to my feeding schedule. It can be a pain, but is worth it for the health of my snakes. I'd rather take the extra time now than have to take the extra time and money to take the animal to the vet because of a block or infection. Just my thoughts on the subject.

I know a guy with high end balls. This winter he lost a 1 year old albino ball. It struck at a mouse, hit it's nose on the side of the aquarium it was in, and it snapped it backwards in half.

I use aspen, and I do not follow my own rules, but feed outside the container. I also like the idea of a cardboard box. I may go to the post off, they have some nice priority boxs FREE. As long as you don't mail anything.

All this talk has me thinking about me listeing to myself more.

Just thougth I'd add a friends related misfortune.

This might get deleted but.....
that is the second time somone has talked about a guy owning ball pythons, but not putting the python part on there, and it just strikes me as really funny if you read it another way!!!!!
Reminds me of an AC/DC sons that was using the same switching in meaning when talking about ball-room dances and the other thing! LOL. Wonder how long this posting will last. I didn't really say anything out of line, so we'll see.

If this posting is deleted for any reason I think we should all find another forum. This post will most definitly make the WEEK IN REVIEW things to consider section. There is good info on snake care here that could save the lives of manny snakes down the road. How manny newbs do you think will read this and think twice next time there snakes sneeze or breath funny?
