setting up incubator

bellaballpython Mar 09, 2006 05:06 PM

This is my first attempt at incubating eggs. I bought a Hovabator incubator. Should i put water in the tray at the bottom? I will have the eggs in deli cups on moistioned Perlite. I'm not sure the humidity will stay up there for 60 days with just the Perlite. I plan on setting the temp to 89 degrees. What should the humidity level be at?
Any help will be appreciated. I bought a WC female & she just laid her eggs. They are with mom for now until I get some advice.
Thanks, Beth

If it were me I would just let the mom incubate them full term. Since it is WC she probably is not going to start eating for a while anyway so you might as well let her do it. here is a link with some info: http://www.animalnetwork.com/Reptiles/detail.aspx?aid=25398&sts=all&gobtn=&cid=3702

I was thinking of leaving the eggs with her. She is in a sterlite tub in a rack. I'm not sure I can get the humidity up high enough in there. Also in making her nest she moved the aspen bedding so the eggs are on the plastic.
I have the Hovabator equilibrating now so they will have to stay with her for at least another day.
This is so exciting, I feel like an expectant mom.
Thanks for your reply.
