Permethrin.....

JKBREPTILES Mar 10, 2006 12:56 PM

This is the main ingredient in Provent a mite. It is also the main ingredient in NIX and if you have a Right Aid near you they have Lice spray in a 5 oz aerosal can for 5.99 each. The Rite aid spray is the same mixture as is in provent a mite. With a few people asking about mites i think this info may be useful. Permethrin is also used in raid and hotshot check the labels. I do not reccomend using them on the animals at all but I spray my outside yard with it to cut down on mesquito's and I spray the floor and lights in my facilty with it to stop any bugs like gnat's and flies during the summer. I hope this helps anyone with mite problems.....

A several months back the employees of my rodent supplier decided it would be a good idea to soak the rats down with permethrin spray on loading day. Another customer and I both suddenly noticed a high percentage of our ball pythons regurgitating almost immediately after eating. None of the balls fed these sprayed rats died (neither the ones keeping them down or the ones regurgitation) or even went off feed and no long term problems noticed yet. So, certainly not recommended but perhaps an interesting thing to know regarding the effect if ingested permethrin on ball pythons.
