Columbians

bigguykev36 Jul 28, 2003 04:16 AM

So what? no one on here likes the columbians? I saw that picture of the brazilian yearling a few posts down, how big is that snake? Maybe it's just the picture, but it looks HUGE compared to my yearling columbian. mine will be a year in just a few days now... and she's still very small. curled up she can fit in the palm of my hand. She's about a foot and a half to 2 feet long, and pretty thin. she's still eating pinkies. Should she be eating bigger? Should I drive the extra hour to the pet store out of town to get pinkies taht are actually bigger? or should I just feed her multiple pinkies? what's better for her? Thanks.

Rainbows are BORN eating fuzzy/hopper mice. I have no idea why yours would be eating pinkies.

well the only mice I can find around these parts are pinkys. We only have a small local petstore, and I usually feed her 3 pinkys per sitting..... once a week. what can I do? she doesn't seen big enough to eat mice yet....

You can buy frozen ones on the internet and if you're lucky the snake can eat those. I should be talking because mine won't... But it's worth a shot. Can you imagine how many pinkies you have to give a 4 foot snake? (the answer- 20... and as a note, never buy a calabar burrowing boa)

. That snake can actually eat a jumbo retired breeder mouse. I have fed them meals that large and they do fine with them. The ideal size meal for yours would be a young adult mouse or a large fuzzy rat. Colombian Rainbows do not get as long or grow as fast as BRBs. A yearling that has been fed on a reasonable diet can easily be a little under 3 feet long.

I feed my newborns pinkies for about two or three meals. After that small fuzzies. They are eating weanlings in about 2 months.
I have a juvenile that I held back from last year that is about 2 1/2 feet now and I haven't been pushing it at all.
Also, Colombians (that's Colombian with an 'O' BTW) are much heavier bodied than Brazilians.

You wouldn't be liked to be called an AMARICAN, do you?? LOL

Anyway, do you have an idea about the difference between a pinky, a fuzzy, a hopper etc. etc.

Like mentioned before, especially rainbow boas are tremendous eaters and many times never even get to see a pinky in their live because they can easily begin with small fuzzies in my opinion....
