Forget coming out of the closet......

rainbowsrus Mar 10, 2006 05:17 PM

My babies are going in!!

I remodeled the closet in my snake room into a full blown nursery.

In the middle are three of the boaphile 30 slot hatchling racks. Each will eventually have it's own helix thermostat, the top rack does not have it's own yet. Currently only using the middle one. I even wired in a new outlet so there would not be extension cords exiting the closet and added an overhead fluorescent light.

On the left and right are my newly constructed 20 slot racks based on sterilite 1754 tubs, should be good for yearlings. Rhose will also habe their own thermostats eventually.

Pretty cool huh?

Good use of the space. Best part of using a closet is you can control area temps so easily. I use to keep all of my herps (including my burms) in a walk in closet, it was so much easier to keep ambients up compared to full bedroom now. Did you remove the doors or did I overlook them in the pix?

Doors are gone. Also gutted all the "normal" closet rods/shelf. I added a shelf but higher than typical closet sized to fit over the racks. Now the closet has racks and a high shelf for storing supplies. I'm 6'1" so high shelves are not a problem

Heating is easy for me, our house is a 5 bedroom 3 bath unit, 4 bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs. The downstairs bedroom was designed as a guest room or "in-laws" quarters. It and the full downstairs bathroom can be closed off together from the rest of the house. It's a tract home and the original buyer (we're the second owners) opted for the additional insulation for the in-laws quarters so it has full insulation, even in the interior walls. Supposed to be for soundproofing but really works well for a snake room. All that extra insulation helps me keep the entire room and closet nice and toasty.

Sounds perfect then.

What will you be filling the tubs up with? And no the answer "babies" is not an acceptable one

A1 job as usual,i'm green and it has nothing to do with st.pat's day.i'm curious with the shop you have and your experience why did you buy the hatchling rack? have fun!

I know I could have built hatchling racks but a few things led me towards the boaphiles. I simply had too much going on with the kitchen remod etc. I had sold a bunch of my baby BRB's so had reptile funding available. And really critical, the boaphile houses a lot of cages (90) in a really small footprint, only 36" wide which was about the max for my closet conversion and still have enough room for the side racks for the larger tubs.

They are for my babies Last year I had 136 BRB's born within a 2 month period. Also I have several BCI morphs raising up, hoping to breed them as well.
