Getting male to feed again after breedin

jwilson Mar 10, 2006 06:11 PM

I have a male columbian that bred for the first time this fall. He performed like a champ over and over. The problem is he hasn't eaten in months and is very skinny. He had never refused food prior to breeding. He lost interest in the female about 3 months ago. He just shed last week and is still refusing. Any suggestions on getting him to feed again would be appreciated. Thanks

If you usually feed him frozen thaw try a prekilled, it might be enough to kick him back into gear. Only male that I have had that gave me fits after breeding went back on feed when I offered him some chicken. (I don't suggest that as many people frown upon that practice)

I've tried pre-killed, stunned, live, you name it. I'm thinking live baby chicks.

That might work quite well. All of my snakes will take poultry whether its frozen thaw prekilled or live like they haven't eaten in a year, so shouldn't hurt giving it a try.

Good luck.
