My pair has copulated every memorial day weekend for years now. I wouldnt worry about pairing them up until the begining of May at the earliest. I get most of my eggs in July to. I guess you may be able to just keep them together all the time but I believe in seperation and introduction around their breeding season.

Thank you for the info. They slept well. I have heard 4 month hibernation works well for Beadeds any comments. Do you have any of your offspring left for sale? Definatly genes we should all have and looks as if you may be able to supply us all! LOL

I usually just unplug the heat devices and lights on Nov. 1 and they stay this way with water only until Feb.7-14. I guess I should mention no meals 2 weeks prior to cooling them and water at all times, they need to clean their gut prior to cool down and for beadeds cool down is like a day at the beach at my place, they stay right around 70F give or take a couple of degrees in fluctuation. I am a firm believer that no matter how you cool them and when you cool them has little bearing on the breeding season. It does induce ovulation in the females I believe but my beadeds are locked up in copulation the same calender days since 1998 every year which for me falls on Memorial Day weekend. I can tell you when they are locked up before I even go and look and I will hit the nail on the head almost everytime. I think changes in barometric pressures in different weather patterns play a huge role in the breeding season. We can try and manipulate them as much as we want with temps and lighting and heat but Im convinced they know what is going on outdoors within your locale and breed in accoring to your weather patterns. Same thing I have noticed with my friend in Germany who also breeds beaded lizards. He always gets his eggs 3-4 weeks ahead of me and Spring is always 3-4 weeks ahead of me within the geographic range we both live in. To me this is a little proof in the pudding so to speak. Hope this helps. We still have some nice little beadeds left.

With some of my hard to breed colubrids I use outdoor cages in the spring a little natural sun. They also have artifitial underground chambers. I might put um out around memorial day weekend it always storms out here electricity in the air you know. Thanks for the info.
