Any fellow boa keepers keep turtles too?

SNAKE26 Mar 11, 2006 12:02 AM

I'm looking for info on how to prevent serious skin sloughing in mata matas. In a recent article on them in Reptiles magazine the author says he had that problem and was able to remedy it, but didn't say how. I've searched everywhere for info and can't find any. The turtle forums aren't much help either. Thanks

I do keep turtles, but don't have the pleasure of having a mata mata. I do know they live in waters with a rather unique water quality in the wild. The same for the surinam toad, of which I do have. Information on this is best obtained if you search South American cichlid care.

Of course I'm guessing that this is a water issue, which isn't that much of a stretch with turtles. I did read the Reptiles article, but havn't heard of this problem.

Good luck in your search, a good herp vet might aid you in your search
