Iguana Societies in Europe?

flower Jul 28, 2003 06:27 AM

Can anyone tell me if they know of any Societies in Belgium that would take good care of my year old Ig?
It breaks my heart that we have to re-home Bud but we are moving and are unable to take Bud with us. I want Bud to go to a good home and for someone to give as much love as I do. I write this with tears pouring down my face and have never felt so sad.

I have read this site for a while and have found some the advice invaluable so that's why I am hoping someone might be able to help.

Thanks in advance.

Why can't you take him with? Sorry I work with dog & cat rescue and the amount of people with the 'I'm moving' reason kind makes you want to kill. Anyway, look at the top of the page for HerpIndex. Try there. The international one is in the UK. Perhaps if you contact them they can help or refer you. I hope you can find someone to take on your Bud.

As it happens, we are moving to Switzerland where my Mum is extremely ill so that we can take care of her. I know that it isn't too far from Belgium but feel that the journey alone would harm Bud. It is a stressful time all round and I am having to make more than 1 sacrifice to be with my Mum.
I know that giving up Bud is hard for you to understand but I don't think that I will have the time and energy to dedicate to Bud because of the situation. I'm sorry if you feel that I am being cruel but I am thinking more of Bud's welfare than I am of myself.

No, I understand a sick parent can take a lot of time. In the States 6 to 12 million pets are put to sleep a DAY because they just aren't enough homes. I work in rescue (Mostly dogs and cats). The times I've heard 'because we're moving' is enough to make me scream. I wish you the best. Yours is not just some flip decision. Is it at all possible that you can have someone care for Bud until the situation improves? Is it possible Mom might enjoy Bud? Pets are very good for the soul, if not I wish the 3 of you the best of luck. And did you post on Kingsnake Europe? (Top of the page).

To be re-homed will be far more stressful to your boy than any trip he could make with you!I moved my igs with me from Indonesia to Malaysia by airplane and they arrived very well! The important thing is to be with you i think.
If you re-home Bud and you discover later on that he is being neglected by the new owner how you will feel?
