Mites and a natural Incubation Question?

wolsniw Mar 11, 2006 02:49 PM

Hello, I have a female GTP that is incubating her own eggs in a 2 foot cubed cage. The other day I noticed she had mites. I was wondering if the use of no pest strips would work with out harming the eggs? When using no pest stripps or prevent a mite all water must be removed from the cage as it becmoes contaminated. And since python eggs absorb water though the air, would the eggs absorb the chemicals through the water vapor in a humid cage? Also would this harm the eggs in any way? If any one has any other Ideas I would really appreciate them. I would remove the eggs and artificially incubate them but I don't have a very good incubator.
Thanks,
Ante Dundov

I would definitely stay away from the no pest strips. Even in animals that aren't sitting on eggs, if you use them incorrectly or in too high a concentration they will cause permanent neurological damage or death. I would think that the Nix diluted as Shiloh showed in another post here would work, but I'm not sure how safe that would be for the mother or eggs right now. Shiloh?????? Any thoughts?

Thanks for your response. I'm gonna continue looking for other alternatives and hope fully find a safe one for the mother and eggs.
Thanks again
