African Rats, got some today and !!!!!!

GaryCrain Mar 11, 2006 02:51 PM

Bought some from feedersplus today at the tampa show.

#45 just laid a clutch on the 3rd, hasnt touched a rat even though she loves them, SHE ATE 2 TODAY!

#15 hasnt eaten since I changed cages a month ago, never been a strong feeder. SHE ATE 2 TODAY!!

#46 She has never eaten for me, had her since Aug. SHE AT 2 TODAY!

That was the acid test. I have about 15 more females I will be trying tonight that havent eaten since I have had them. I also have about 20 more that stopped eating when I changed cages I will be trying tonight as well.

That is great news - I assume that you were able to pick up some live ones? Or did you get f/t? Just wondering if some of that magic will work on those of us that are less fortunate (and don't live in FL) and would have to rely on f/t african rats for our picky WCs? Aww well maybe someone can smuggle some back from Daytona! LOL

Thanks and Congrats again.

No problem, I'll post later tonight. I cant wait for it to get dark! haha

They are live, im working on finding some females so I can breed my own. They pretty much just look like big mice with big ears except for the colors.

Anyway, I have snakes eating that ive tried mice, rats, gerbils, everything and nothing. Its looking very good so far.

WE NEED MORE OF THESE AROUND...........AND FEMALES!!!!!!

What are you calling African Rats? In idea what species?
Anyway you could post a picture of one of these "african rats"?
Last question: Are these legal? With the scare they had back a few years ago with Monkey Pox, supposely coming from African "pouched" rats, I understand alot of states imposed laws forbiddening importation of "extoic rodents".
If anyone has any information on the above topics, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks

I had gone to the petstore a few weeks ago to pick up some feeders. The store carries various types of rats and had mistakenly had this female in a cage marked for feeders so I bought her to produce feeders. She has big "Dumbo" ears and so do her babies.

Yep those are dumbos here is a pic of one of our dumbos, and the rat. Lol my daughter holding dumbo the rat.

Tried 4 cages, went back an hour later and 3 have eaten. Put 3 more in and one ate right away. THESE ARE IMPORT ADULT FEMALES!!! They have been treated months about for internal parasites, tried gerbils, rats, mice. NOTHING!

I put a few more in some other cages. Ill be back!

When you have had a snake that hasnt eaten in 7 or more months and now its eating! That is great on its own. I HAVE 4 eating in one night that havent ever eaten for me!

Hi there,
I use them for all imported picky eaters. Any snake you have that has not eaten for you in forever, and or will never eat mice or rats will eat these. So you dont lose precious snakes due to them not eating. I have several snakes from Africa that would rather starve and die than touch a mouse or rat, but with these they eat. I have seen snakes that are not receptive to anything, skin and bones, but the second you bring an AR (African Rat) in the room they start moving around tasting the air, and ready to strike. This stuff is AMAZING!

These things are great!
