any one know the genus of the african rats?....what are they called at the petstores? are they dumbos? im a little confused by this one lol ...My local pet stores have regular rats (i think they originate from denmark?) and they have dumbos...wondering if theres any real difference as far as feeding responce

A dumbo is just a regular rat with funny ears.. totally not the same thing as the african rats.

thats what I thought... maybe I read it wrong but some one mentioned dumbos and it really confused me lol....bad headache tonight hehehe

No - you wouldn't find them in a pet store - they were banned a few years ago because they were being imported and carried monkeypox. There are very few people that were allowed to maintain a breeding colony - those that do breed them wouldn't be releasing them to pet stores.

thanks that explains it all...tosha we're lucky to have you on the forum lol...I may have seen them at a reptile show in IL. before I know they had african mice but im not 100% on the rats...i'll keep an eye out and maybe breed some if I can get them
