Female has laid 10 eggs

zahr Mar 11, 2006 06:45 PM

I have my female and she has laid 10 eggs and I think there is more to come. She laid 9 on Thursday and one more today...
First how would I know if they are fertalized or not? She has been with her mate for over a year and they are both about 2yrs old . The eggs look more oblong and narrow. 3 of the eggs have dimpled and are starting to smell. The rest look nice and firm. This is my first breading. I could use any help....

Thanks

Ive never been thru this yet so I a newbie also. But from what I read here, when they smell they are bad. Im sure the experts will tell you more.

when they are fertile...they are all white...when they are unfertile they are yellowish...throw away the ones that are collasing as they will start to mold. you can also candlestick them to see if there is an embryo in the egg. I've never looked at them this way. I just keep track of the matings and can tell by looking at the eggs to know for sure that they are fertile.

Healthy fertile eggs are more white and firm and they won't collapse (unless they are too dry). Any egg that stinks, is bad so you can safely throw those away.

Thanks for the info...I do have 5 eggs that are firm but 2 of them have some yellow in them but I do see red blood vessles in all of them. All the eggs aren't pure white. Does that mean they are not fertilized? I have the temp at 81 degrees right now I did order an incubator. It should be here by the end of the week.

Thanks for all the help...

If they are developing veins, then there is a very good chance the eggs are fertile and will incubate full term.

thanks for the info...I just noticed that 2 of the eggs are kinda sticky? Is that normal or is that fungus?
