Lucutis depressed?

waspinator421 Mar 11, 2006 08:14 PM

Hello all! I hope everyone is doing well!

I just had a question about my boy Lucutis, a veiled. He's been brown almost all day long lately, and I can't figure out why. He still eagerly eats, and drinks, and oh my yes he is definetely pooping! It has been VERY dry in my new place (about 30%), and have been trying to keep the humidity up the best I can by spraying often. I know that doesn't do that good of a job, and I am considering getting a humidifier. He's still receiving nice warm showers, though. He's about 8 months old now, and he still is very bright when he sleeps and fires up. The basking branch is about 90F-95F surface temp, and he sometimes will open his mouth while basking. From what I've read, gaping means they are usually too warm, unless their breathing is heavy. So, I figure his basking area is warm enough. Is there something I am just not seeing?

It's been a long time since I've had a chameleon, and I was pretty young then, so I'm still learning a lot. Thanks everyone in advance for helping to keep my boy healthy and happy!

P.S. Here is my boy as a little squirt!

Slow down my friend! You're gonna' end up micromanaging him to ill health and yourself into a breakdown! LOL. Don't gauge the health/vibrance of your little cham in a series of "snapshots". Give him space/time to just be a lizard. I'll wager any of us could look in any cage and "invent" something to worry/fixate about/over.

If he's eating, drinking, active, etc. and al of the basic husbandry parameters are being met, just leave him be. You'll both enjoy the experiences for a long, long time.

Thanks Bill, I guess I was worrying too much! I just haven't seen him be brown this much before! He is still active and seems healty otherwise, so I'll just settle down. Thanks again!

I don't think yo have anything to worry about. Rana freaks out everytime I move her cage. Once she get's used to it, it's all good. Poor guys has had a lot of changes recently!! But he's in good hands, so he'll be o.k.
I agree with Billy, stay away from the Micro-managing! LOL, if not before you know it, you may come to the conclustion that your cham is has Arachibutyrophobia!! LOL.
