Brazil nut frog (Dendrobates castaneoticus)

s-holden Jul 28, 2003 08:22 AM

How easy is it to successfully breed the brazil nut frog? Are they prolific breeders and are these hardy frogs?

Also why aren't they widely available in the frog trade? What is the expected market price for this frog?

From what I understand, the castaneoticus have never been legally introduced into the US pet trade. I am sure it will become more popular in the next few years as more people begin to produce them.

Could you also tell me what is the expected average lifespan of the brazil nut frog?

Thanks,
Steve

I also want to get my hands on some Castaneoticus. I just saw some at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and they are amazing little guys. They are a lot smaller than I thought, around an inch to inch and a half, I think. They didn't really have any information on them, so sorry about that

No experience here myself but I can steer you in the right direction. Check with John and Jennifer at Tincs.com or Patrick at Saurian.net - they both have or are working with them. Interesting little thumbnails, some say that they are a little difficult to breed though.
