In boa constrictors, mating a pair of double heterozygous snakes (heterozygous albino, heterozygous anerythristic) will statistically produce 1/16 albino, anerythristic (snow). Both albino and anerythristic are recessive to the respective normal gene.
In corn snakes, mating a pair of double heterozygous snakes (heterozygous amelanistic, heterozygous anerythristic) will statistically produce 1/16 amelanistic, anerythristic (snow). Both amelanistic and anerythristic are recessive to the respective normal gene.
I'm not familiar with a mutant named "melanistic". What species is it found in?
Paul Hollander
In Cal. Kings & Garters, breeding an Albino X a Melanistic (aka Chocolate Cal. King) will produce Dbl Hets for the Snow Kingsnake (or Garter) = white snake w/ a faint pattern. In Ball Pythons, Boas, and most other species, breeding an Albino X Anery (or Axanthic - the names are made up anyway) will produce Dbl. Hets for Snows. The melanistic (or hyper-melanistic since they are not totally black) Ball Pythons or Boas due not seem to be a genetic or inheritable trait. Their is a new mutaion of Ball Python that may provide hope in producing a "Blizzard" or pure white Snow.
