The grubs are large

PHRatz Mar 12, 2006 10:33 AM

It rained here last week & now the sandy soil is perfect for digging up earthworms because they're near the surface.

Yesterday I had the 3 girls outside feasting on fresh earthworms & found a few big fat grubs. Janie won't eat grub worms but she loves the earthworms.

After I sent them inside I brought out Chip, he loves those grubs! He ate 2 earthworms & then ignored any others. He apparently doesn't care much for them which I suppose is why he refuses nightcrawlers too.
Janie loves nightcrawlers, they can't ever like all the same foods lol.
Too bad there's no way that I know of to breed grub worms, Janie is the only one who won't eat those. Even the aquatic turtles want grubs.
And of course there are no chemicals on our lawn, our sulcata grazes the lawn so we can't use anything that isn't organic out there.

I'm sure they are all very happy to have their porch creature feasts again

I think so, they got to sit in the real sun, breathe fresh air, & eat like pigs. The seemed very happy to be outside.

Even better DH has a man lined up to build my pen. It's just a matter of doing it now & we also have to figure out where to put a divider in it. The sprinkler system is in the way but we'll find a way to make sure males can't see females.
I can't wait to have that done!
