adding a gecko species to breeding project...more

HerpGirl Jul 28, 2003 08:52 AM

i have been looking into adding a gecko species to my breeding "project" called UroKnight(uromastyx maliensis and anolis equestris).(ps i may be changing my sn to that)but i havent decided on a specific species yet, i am still educating myself a bit more. i was debating between leopards, tokays, gargoyles, or the skunk geckos(if i can ever find anything on them.). i wanted to see what you guys thought. i know most of you will probably say leopards.and that is what i was leaning toward but i am not sure, one reason being that there is no market for any but the best of the morph specimens. how hard are the others to breed? any info will be appreciated. thanks.

p.s.
maybe i will see some of u guys next saturday at the hamburg show! (northeastern berks herp show)

Leopards - easy
Tokays - easy
Gargoyles - I dont know, never tried.
Skunk geckos - No clue, but I THINK its just a while lined gecko's second common name.....correct me if I'm wrong on that...If it is, should be pretty easy as well.

all geckos you mentioned breed readily.gargoyl geckos are basicly the same as cresteds in care.for info on tokays get the tokay geckos and similar geckos(i believwe thats the title)by jim zaworski and sean mckeown.this is a great book and includes tokays, white lineds(or skunk geckos),green eyed geckos, golden geckos, flying geckos, and the bent toed geckos.hope this helps

Skunk Geckos or Gekko vittatus are easy to keep and breed. The babies have vibrant colors. My trio has laid over a dozen eggs so far and more are on the way. Best of luck.
